Recipe for a Toxic Childhood

Just in time for Halloween! Check out my recipe for Wicked Stew.

**Ingredients:**

- 1 cup of constant criticism

- 2 tablespoons of emotional neglect

- 1 teaspoon of unrealistic expectations

- A pinch of isolation

- A dash of conditional love

- 3 cups of unresolved family conflicts

- A handful of secrecy

- 4 scoops of blame-shifting

- A dollop of manipulation

- Generous sprinkles of gaslighting

**Instructions:**

1. Start by mixing the constant criticism and unrealistic expectations in a large bowl. Blend until self-esteem is thoroughly crushed.

2. In a separate pot, simmer the emotional neglect over low heat, stirring occasionally until feelings of worthlessness emerge.

3. Gradually fold in the isolation and conditional love, creating a sense of loneliness and insecurity.

4. Sprinkle unresolved family conflicts on top, allowing them to fester and undermine trust.

5. In a hidden compartment, combine secrecy, blame-shifting, and manipulation. Stir vigorously to maintain confusion and control.

6. Finally, add generous dollops of gaslighting to taste, leaving the child questioning their reality.

7. Let simmer for years, serving with a side of trauma and emotional scars.
